By general agreement in philosophical argument "When a thing is named it is distinguished from what it was before it was named. " So "pig is a different thing to "pork" and otherwise personal naming animals (to be later slaughtered for food) is generally avoided in order to differentiate emotionally between the two states. Such is the power of Fiction. An established maxim of law states the importance of a name: “In order rightly to comprehend a thing,

inquire first into the names, for a right knowledge of things depends upon their names.”

Just loved this....very well observed...but do consider readers....could you eat a chicken called 'Angel'?.....thought not!
